When he arrived for a Only Way Is Essex glamping session in bright orange Ugg boots, girlfriend Sam Faiers was quick to ban him from ever wearing the fluroescent footwear again.

However, Joey Essex yesterday proved who wears the trousers in their relationship as he defied Faiers's ban and stepped out proudly showing in the Uggs in Brentwood.

And Essex went all out with his 80s-inspired look in a tight white Hollister T-shirt and matching navy jogging bottoms.

The 20-year-old teamed his look with a pair of huge sunglasses and his favourite mode of transport - his white Smart car.

Girlfriend Sam grinned and beared it as she strolled along hand-in-hand with Joey, doing her best to ignore his questionable fashion sense.

Joey tweeted an explanation for his outfit this morning when he wrote on his Twitter page: 'Sam let me wear my orange ugg boots because I forgot my trainers peeps!!! So comfterble (sic) mannnnn... Who wants orange ugg's?'

It remains to be seen how the pair's relationship will continue, however, as Sunday's episode saw the couple's first argument after Sam refused to let Joey go with her to Marbella, insisting she wanted to go with her girlfriends.

The season finale of The Only Way Is Essex is on ITV2 tonight at 10pm.
